NOTICE OF ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING OF THE WESTERN UPPER PENNINSULA
MATERIALS MANAGEMENT PLANNING COMMITTEE
The organizational meeting of the Western Upper Peninsula Materials Management Planning Committee (WUP MMPC) will be held on December 16th, 2024 at 12:30 – 2:00 pm Eastern Time in the 8th floor conference room of the Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region (WUPPDR) at 400 Quincy St. Hancock, MI 49930. Lunch will be served at 12:00 pm for committee members.
The WUP MMPC is a joint body of representatives who are responsible for the creation of a Materials Management Plan initiated by amendments to Part 115 of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, Michigan Public Act 451 of 1994. This plan will regulate solid waste disposal, recycling, and composting activities within the counties of Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon.
This meeting will include the election of officers, introduction to committee functions and responsibilities, review of the draft committee bylaws, and the materials management workplan. The committee will create a regular schedule and designate a meeting place(s) for future meetings.

The Michigan State Housing Development Authority has funding through the Michigan Homeowner Assistance Fund. It will help eligible homeowners who have experienced a financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic with certain delinquent payments. The Houghton County CDBG Program has a Homeowner Emergency Repair Grant which provides low-income homeowners with a one-time grant, up to $5,000, for emergency repairs to their home. Roof repair will be the only type of repair this program will assist with.

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a federal program run by the FCC to assist qualifying low-income households pay for internet service and connected devices such as laptops or tablets. Households may be eligible if their income is below 200% the Federal Poverty Line or if someone in the household receives a government benefit such as SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, WIC, Pell Grant, or Free and Reduced-Proce Lunch. If eligible, households may receive up to a $30/month discount on internet service, up to $75 a month discount on qualifying Tribal lands, and a one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer (with a co-payment of more than $10 but less than $50).
